Tellico Village Golf Leagues

Tellico Village has a Men's Golf Association (MGA) and a Ladies Golf Association (LGA), both of which offer both 18-holes and 9-hole leagues. An additional league, the "linksters," is available to both men and women. To play in the leagues, you must be a Tellico Village property owner. League play rotates among the three courses.

To join either the 18-hole or 9-hole leagues, you must have an established handicap, either by turning in an existing GHIN card or by submitting 10 verified score cards (a trend of 5 scores in the computer may also be acceptable). Linksters requires neither MGA or LGA membership nor established handicaps.

A couple's league, not associated with either the MGA LGA, is also available for property owners.

Watch the Village Connection or Channel 3 for announcements about the golf leagues, organizing meetings for 2005, and so on.

Ladies Golf Leagues

Women's golf leagues play on Tuesday mornings. League play runs from March to October, although winter golf is available. During league play, all courses schedule shotgun starts (at 8:30 during summer months, later when mornings are darker). Applications for the 18-hole and 9-hole leagues are available in the women's locker rooms at all three golf courses.

Ladies 18-Hole

To join the 18-hole league, you must have a maximum course handicap of 40, but you must play to a 36 in all league events. The fee for joining is $49 (which includes your GHIN fee), and you have the option of joining the "hole-in-one" club for an additional $5.

For more information, call Dee Prickett, league president, prckttdee@chartner.net or 458-1023, or Gwen Knueven, league membership chair, gwenktn@aol.com or 408-1026.

Ladies 9-Hole

To join the 9-hole league, you must have an established average score of 66 or less (maximum handicap for the league is 30) for 9 holes. If you already have an established USGA handicap, to join the league you only need to turn an application into the league, providing you meet the handicap requirements. If you do not have a USGA handicap, ten cards of 9-hole rounds are required with the application. The fee for joining is $30, and you have the option of joining the "hole-in-one" club for an additional $5.

The league is currently playing winter golf, which is a casual game. The official league season is the last week of March thru the first week in November. A Welcome Coffee Meeting will be held in February.

Lady Linksters

The Lady Linksters league is currently in winter golf. During winter golf, anyone can sign up, even golfers who did not pay the season fee. A sign up sheet is posted on the board at the Toqua Clubhouse. The sheet goes up each Tuesday afternoon and is taken down on Saturday evening. New golfers need to give the golf pro, Lisa, their email address so she can email them their tee time and which golf course the Linksters are playing that particular week.

The Lady Linksters is a fun league for which you do not have to have an established handicap. In fact, you don't have to keep score if you prefer not to. Although most Linksters play 9 holes, several opt to play only 4-holes, so this league is a good place for beginning golfers or those who are not physically capable of playing 9 holes. Signup sheets are located at the Toqua Pro Shop bulletin board each week, although play rotates among the three courses.

For more information, call Trish Willis (423-884-2262), Jeannie Pampush (865-408-3142), or Susan Silverthorn (865-458-9605). An organizational meeting is held in the spring. There is a $5 fee to join for the year.

Men's Golf Leagues

Men's golf leagues play on Thursday mornings. The yearly membership fee for the MGA is $25.

Men's 18-Hole

The 18-hole league is open to MGA members only. You must have an established handicap to play. Shotgun starts are scheduled year-around. Signup sheets are available at all three pro shops. To play on Thursday, you must sign up by noon on Wednesday.

For more information, call Joe Stutler, 458-6457.

Men's 9-Hole

The 9-hole league is open to MGA members. The games played are a modified scramble with the emphasis on fun. The group sets up games, entry fees, and foursomes. The weekly sign up sheet is posted on the Toqua Pro Shop bulletin board.

Rainbow Linksters

The Rainbow Linksters, another 9-hole golfing option, is offered to both MGA and non-MGA members. Play is every Thursday morning throughout the year. Games are not played, the golfing is not competitive, and there is no entry fee. This group is ideal for the beginning golfer, the golfer who has not played for several years, and the golfer who just enjoys getting out on the course. The group organizer sets up the foursomes.

For more information, call Don Kimball, 408-9861.
